Sister Cities Mural

This is the newest mural at Chris Salmon Plaza. It was designed by OSU student Jake Warner to show the friendship between Stillwater and our sister city in Japan, Kameoka.

Chris Salmon was an architect who cared about people. She was a pioneer in researching and designing spaces for people living with physical challenges. Find a plaque with her name to learn more about her!

P = POINT OUT: Can you find the Japanese letters or characters? That means, "friendship." Who are your friends?

L = LAUGH: Can you make big eyes like the dragon? Wasn't that silly to try?

= ASK: Why are there buildings on the top and bottom?

Y = YAY: What is your favorite color in the mural?

"I Spy" is a great activity for children of all ages. here are some ideas of things to find!

o   I spy red flowers. How many can you count?

o   I spy a bird! Can you pretend to soar like a bird?

o   Can you find buildings in two places on the mural?

Point to the eyes in the mural and say, “Eyes.” Repeat this, pointing to your eyes first and saying, “Eyes”, and then to the baby's eyes.

Find the places in the mural with the highest contrast. Point to the object in the mural and label it. Example: Red flower, bright orange, white flower.

Can you stretch and walk tall like a crane?

Do you see any squares? Let's point to them as we count!

The bird is flying over the city. What would it see?

Cranes often stand on one foot. Let's count how long you can stand on one foot.
