Our Building a Better Brain Campaign is a strategy to engage the whole community of Stillwater and Payne County in supporting vibrant learning and brain development among children from birth to age five. We offer information, mentoring, and resources to medical, educational, civic, and business organizations along with direct support to families.
Early Learning City
We are part of a growing international effort to bring awareness and action around the importance of brain development in the early years of life.
Early Childhood Coalition has been officially recognized as The Basics Stillwater Backbone.
basics Insights Texting
Basics Insights text messages deliver developmentally appropriate guidance for establishing strong parent-child attachments and teaching young children. Enrolled families receive 2 messages per week that build on conversations about The Basics 5 Principles.
Multi-media resources
ECC supports partner organizations to enhance their skills and communication with families. We provide videos, handouts, curriculum support, in-person presentations, relevant data, and more.
Brain Bags
Brain Bags are early learning gift bags given to each family who has a newborn at Stillwater Medical Center. The Brain Bags include a storybook and toy for a newborn, a book for families about The Basics, a QR code for free enrollment in the Insights texting service, and other information about care and child development.
THE basics
Our campaign centers on The Basics, five parenting and caregiving strategies that support young children’s social, emotional, and cognitive development. The strategies were developed from research by the Achievement Gap Initiative at Harvard University in collaboration with a national expert advisory committee. The Basics don’t require fancy toys or extra hours in the day – they can be a part of everyday routines at home and school.
